About High Risk Security Advisors (HRSA)

Neptune P2P Group offers tailored HRSA (High Risk Security Advisor) services specifically designed to support news media organisations and freelance journalists operating in challenging environments.

We recognise the HRSA role as a niche, specialist position within the security sector—one that demands far more than technical security training. That’s why our selected personnel are not only professionally qualified, but also equipped with the soft skills, situational awareness, and real-world experience needed to integrate seamlessly into media teams and enhance their operational effectiveness.

Our HRSAs accompany journalists into a wide range of high-risk environments, including conflict zones, politically sensitive regions, and areas affected by natural or man-made disasters. When deployed, they understand their role is to support—not lead—the media team, blending in and contributing discreetly to ensure safety without disrupting the flow of reporting.

The HRSA’s responsibilities go well beyond conducting risk assessments or providing medical support. Our advisors are chosen based on a rigorous set of criteria that ensures they bring real-world value to every deployment:

Military and Combat Experience

We believe that to support media teams in war zones, the HRSA must have first-hand operational experience. Our personnel have served in recent conflicts such as Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as semi-permissible regions including West and East Africa, the Levant, and Latin America. This experience enables them to offer informed, tactical advice and anticipate the challenges journalists may face on the ground.

Real-World Travel and Survival Skills

Neptune’s HRSAs are seasoned travellers, accustomed to operating self-supported in remote and rugged environments.  Whether crossing deserts in 4x4 vehicles, navigating the African savanna, or trekking through dense jungle, they possess the practical skills needed to assist media teams entering disaster-struck or inaccessible regions.

Medical Capabilities

In hostile or remote environments, access to medical care can be hours—or even days—away. All our HRSAs are trained to a minimum of FREC 3 (First Response Emergency Care), with many holding higher-level qualifications. This ensures they can provide critical medical support when it matters most.

Soft Social Skills and Geopolitical Awareness

We place a strong emphasis on emotional intelligence and communication skills.  This enables our HRSAs to not manage the stressful situations they may find themselves in; they can communicate in a such a way to share their knowledge to other team members to dispel their fear and help them control the stress they may feel. Our HRSAs are selected for their ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and maintain professionalism under pressure.

They are expected to have a solid understanding of the geopolitical landscape of the region they’re deployed to, and to communicate effectively with the media team, their support networks, and senior management—both in person and through written reports and briefings.

Neptune P2P Group is a proudly diverse organisation, with offices located in three culturally rich cities across Europe and Asia. We embrace and celebrate all cultures and communities, fostering an inclusive environment that reflects our global outlook.

Our HRSA professionals are highly skilled in working respectfully and effectively with women, ethnic minorities, underrepresented groups, and the LGBTQ+ community. They bring a steady, calming presence in high-pressure situations, ensuring safety and confidence when it matters most.

Collaborating closely with correspondents, producers, and photojournalists, our HRSAs play an integral role in assignment planning, anticipating challenges and offering practical, proactive solutions to support successful outcomes.

Suitable Character

At Neptune P2P Group, we understand that the right temperament is just as critical as tactical skill when supporting journalists in high-risk environments.  Our HRSAs are selected not only for their operational experience, but for their ability to remain calm, composed, and focused under pressure.  Cool-headedness and prior combat experience is essential, our advisors know how to respond effectively if the team comes under indirect fire or direct small arms attack. But technical capability alone isn’t enough. Not everyone in the security industry is suited to working alongside the world’s press. That’s why we choose HRSAs who demonstrate exceptional emotional intelligence, resilience, and cheerfulness in the face of adversity. Our HRSAs act as the eyes and ears of the team, observing the environment, identifying potential threats before they escalate, and advising the media crew accordingly, all while allowing journalists to focus on their news gathering.
