King’s message of peace to conference

MANAMA: Bahrain yesterday stressed the need to steer the region away from any tension caused by weapons of mass destruction.

It voiced full support for efforts to maintain security, stability and peace in the region and the whole world.

His Majesty King Hamad conveyed the message of peace as he received at Al Safriya Palace participants in the Gulf Strategic Conference.

Arab League Secretary-General Dr Nabil El Araby and GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani were present.

The Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) is organising the two-day event.

The King reiterated Bahrain’s resolve to continue consolidating friendship and co-operation with all countries for the sake of joint interests.

He stressed the pivotal role of GCC countries in protecting waterways, being the vital lifeline to the global economy.

“Our responsibility lies in protecting the strategic maritime arteries from the scourge of terror and piracy,” he said.

He stressed Bahrain’s contribution to the effort, with the Royal Navy twice assuming the command of Task Force 151 (CTF-151).
