The global security situation deteriorated in Q2 2025 as the US and Israel struck Iranian nuclear facilities, resulting in retaliatory action by Iran, which threatened to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The US struck Houthi command and missile launch facilities in Yemen before a ceasefire agreement was reached between the two sides. In Africa, conflicts escalated in Sudan, Ethiopia, and across the Sahel region. Insurgent attacks on targets in Indian Kashmir led to a short but intense war between Pakistan and India in May. The four-day conflict ended when a US-brokered ceasefire was agreed. China continued to exert pressure on Taiwan, conducting a series of naval and air exercises in the Taiwan Strait.
