Monthly Maritime Incident Report July 2024

The impact of the Indian Ocean SW monsoon resulted in no piracy-related incidents being reported in July, the first month this has happened since the beginning of 2024.

Elsewhere, Houthi attacks continued against ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, over 30 aerial weapons were intercepted with 7 ships either impacted or involved in a near miss. In the Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic Ocean, migrant crossings continue unabated. In West Africa, there was an increase in criminal activity in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.  A surge in robberies was reported in the Singapore Strait while robberies from pleasure craft remain a persistent problem in the Caribbean Sea.
