ReCAAP ISC posts 19% rise of incidents in May 2015

Singapore-headquartered anti-piracy watchdog ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC) posted a 19% increase in the number of reported incidents to 20 cases in May 2015 as compared with April 2015.

Of these incidents, there were two acts of piracy and 18 incidents of robbery onboard ship, according to ReCAAP ISC definitions. Fourteen of them occurred onboard shipswhile underway and six onboard ships at anchor or berth.

In terms of geographical location, 11 of these incidents occurred in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS), of which one was an attempted case, while 10 were actual incidents.
