For security of ports, state plans CCTV cover, control centre at Gandhinagar

Presently, Gujarat accounts for more than 32 per cent of the total maritime traffic of the country with the non-major ports handing about 336 million tonnes of cargo in 2014-15.

In order to enhance coastal security and to provide round-the-clock surveillance for the state’s ports, a central command and control centre is being planned at Gandhinagar.

This centre will be linked through an extensive network of alarms and CCTV cameras at the ports; which will include sea-facing thermal cameras to keep an eye on the vast expanse of sea surrounding the ports and night vision devices to keep a tab on all movements happening within the port.
