A number of sea piracy cases have been reported along the west Motuan coast of Central Province.
Manumanu village councilor, Robert Raho, said sea pirates often robbed betel nut smugglers travelling by boat with betel nut bags and made away with huge amounts of cash money.
In other cases, local boat skippers aiding the transportation of betel nut bags were lost out at sea.
After the National Capital District Commission, through Governor Parkop, effected the citywide ban on the sale and chewing of betel nut in and around the city, people have resorted to the sea mode of transport to smuggle betel nuts into Port Moresby.
This is evident along the Motuan west coast of Central Province.
