The Ukrainian Navy is seeking cooperation with the Indian Navy in the context of preparations for their participation in international antiterrorist and anti-piracy maritime operations.
“The Ukrainian Navy is preparing for the participation of its Hetman Sahaidachny frigate with a special detachment and a helicopter on board in the Ocean Shield Operation at the end of this year. The Indian Navy has significant practical results in combating piracy in the Indian Ocean, and that’s why we are interested in exchanging experience in the tactical use of warships and detachments while participating in anti-piracy operations,” Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Rear Admiral Dmytro Shakuro said during a protocol meeting with Indian Defense Attaché, Commodore Siddhartha Sant at the Embassy of India in Ukraine on Tuesday, according to the press service of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.
In turn, Sant noted that the Indian Navy actively participates in multinational naval exercises in the Indian Ocean, as well as actively combating piracy.
He also expressed hope that in the near three years of his work in Ukraine the countries will intensify cooperation between their navies. He proposed the Ukrainian side to consider the prospects for a visit by a Ukrainian warship to an Indian port.
