The Russian naval ship Marshal Shaposhnikov has left Tanzania after four days in Dar es Salaam providing anti-piracy training to the Tanzanian navy, Tanzania’s Daily News reported Thursday (February 28th).
During the first visit of a Russian warship to Tanzania, Russian soldiers shared their skills and experience fighting piracy with their Tanzanian counterparts, according to a statement from the Russian embassy in Dar es Salaam.
“The trip itself also assures the presence of a warship in the Indian Ocean, which has had a positive effect on piracy in the region, with¬†attacks decreasing consistently,” the statement said.
A delegation from the warship also met with Dar es Salaam Mayor Didas Masburi and Commander of the Tanzanian navy Major General Said Shaaban Omari.
