The IMB reports that pirates attacked a general cargo ship underway off the coast of Nigeria on Monday. The ship was in position 04:06.68N-06:52.57E at 0635 LT, around 13nm South of the Nigeria coast when it was approached by a speed boat on its port side. 
The merchant vessel increased speed and began evasive manoeuvres. The speed boat came alongside and the pirates attempted to board the cargo ship. Due to the anti-piracy measures engaged, the pirates were unable to board and fired on the ship before aborting. Crew and ship are safe and proceeding to port. No details regarding armed security arrangements on vessel.
