Reports state that a Bahamas-flagged container ship underway was attacked by pirates off the Nigerian coast on Saturday May 4th.

The MV was in position 04:02.30N-006:54.90E, approximately 28nm SW of Bonny, Nigeria, when it came under attack at 0940 UTC by seven armed pirates in a speed boat. The MV’s Master raised the alarm, increased the ship’s speed and sent distress messages as well as activating the vessel’s SSAS. Non-essential crew were mustered in the ship’s citadel. The pirates closed to within 60-70 metres of the ship and then opened fire with automatic weapons. At 0953 UTC, the pirates aborted their attack and moved away.

No injuries to crew. The MV reached Onne, Nigeria safely.
