Multinational military exercise begins in Cameroon on Friday

Yaound√©, Cameroon – An international military exercise dubbed ‘Obangame Express’ that brings together soldiers from 16 African countries begins on Friday at the Douala naval base, Cameroon, sources close to the United States Embassy in Yaound√© told PANA on Thursday.

The seven-day exercise is being organized by the US Command for Africa (AFRICOM), United States Naval Forces for Africa (USNAVAF) and the Cameroonian defence ministry.

It is aimed at improving cooperation between participating countries and strengthening their capacities in the fight against maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

Among the participating countries are Benin, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, France, Gabon, Nigeria, Congo, Sao Tomé and Principe and Togo.
