Judith Tebbutt: A pen mightier than swords

It promises to be one of the most moving books of the year. Faber and Faber is to publish an account of being held hostage by Somali pirates by Judith Tebbutt, wife of Faber’s finance director David Tebbutt, who was killed in the attack on their hotel in Kenya in 2011.

The memoir of her 192 days in captivity is out in July. ‚ÄúI made the decision to write my story while I was still captive,‚Äù explains Tebbutt. ‚ÄúI was trying to come to terms with what was happening to me … thinking, too, about how brave David had been in trying to resist the pirates. I also wanted a record for my son Ollie.

“The pirates had let me have a pen and paper, and the words I wrote in my diary that day were the first inklings of the book.”
