Iran prepared to equip Namibia’s navy: Comdr.

Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has expressed the Islamic Republic‚Äôs readiness to help Namibia equip its naval fleet.

After a Tuesday meeting with his Namibian counterpart Peter Vilho, Sayyari said that Iran’s Navy is ready to provide training and maintenance services to the Namibian naval fleet and help the African country organize its navy forces.

Sayyari also pointed to Iran’s experience in fighting piracy in the north of the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden and noted that the Islamic Republic has agreed to share its expertise with Namibia.

Vilho, for his part, noted that Namibia is willing to acquire the Iranian Navy’s expertise in different areas, including anti-piracy.

In recent years, Iran’s Navy has been increasing its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers.

In line with the international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has been also conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
