An Indian naval ship is in the Maldives to conduct joint training exercises with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in addition to exclusive economic zone and anti-piracy patrol.
Indian high commission in Male said the naval ship INS Khanjar held the joint training exercises from 16-17, September and will patrol the Maldivian EEZ from 18-21, September.
INS Khanjar is part of the elite eastern fleet of the Indian navy and is designed for surface-to-surface warfare.
The ship’s weapon outfit includes surface to surface missiles, close range anti-air missiles, medium calibre gun and close-in weapon systems.  She also has the capability to carry an Alouette helicopter for air operations.
The ship’s deployment to Maldives underscores the strong bilateral ties and maritime security cooperation between the two countries, the high commission said.
