MUSCAT - Athens-based dry bulk shipper FreeSeas has announced that MV Free Goddess will return to service soon. According to the owner, it had already secured US$1.1mn (RO423,500) from the insurers of the vessel.
The bulk carrier with 21 crew members was transiting between Egypt and Singapore, carrying a cargo of steel cables when it was hijacked by Somali pirates off the Oman coast on February 7 last year.
The carrier was released in October the same year after a ransom was paid to Somali pirates.
The 22,051 deadweight tonne bulk carrier has been under repairs at a port of refuge since her release.
