Eighteen fishermen are said to have been abducted along with a fishing trawler from the Bay of Bengal near Bhola’s Monpura Island.
The fishing trawler was captured by pirates in Bhashan Char, said the vessel’s owner Mafizul Islam.
Ten among the 18 missing have been identified. They are from the unions in Bhola’s Doulatkhan Upazila.
Daulatkhan Police Station OC Mobassher Ali said the owner of the fishing vessel filed a general diary with them over the reported abduction. But the site of the incident is under Monpura Police Station’s jurisdiction, so they will be responsible for it.
However, Monpura Station OC SS Azizul Islam said, they have not received a complaint in this regard, but will take action when they do.
