Chinese naval fleet pays four-day goodwill visit to Cameroon

The 16th escort task force of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) arrived at the harbor of Douala, Cameroon, on May 30, 2014, for a four-day-long goodwill visit toCameroon.

This is the first time for a Chinese naval escort taskforce to visit Cameroon. The fleetincluded guide missile frigate “Yancheng” and “Luoyang”. The guided missile frigates willbe open to public, and a reception will be held on the deck. The taskforce will also visitorphanages to carry out public service activity.

During the visit, Chinese and Cameroonian navies will conduct anti-piracy joint drill forthe first time, in a bid to strengthen mutual understanding and deepen mutual trust, aswell as to improve the ability to maintain maritime security.

The two navies will also organize their officers and men to visit ships and ship-borneequipment of each other, conduct professional communication and participate in othermilitary and cultural exchange activities.

The 16th escort taskforce set off for the eight-country visit in Africa on April 24, 2014.After visiting Cameroon, the task force will head for Angola, Namibia and South Africa for visit.
