Seychelles join Japan and the United Arab Emirates to co-chair of Working Group 3 of the Contact Group on the fight against piracy off the Somali coast (CGPCS).
The 16th plenary meeting of the Contact Group and the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Trust Fund for the fight against piracy , held from May 12 to 15 at the UN headquarters in New York and in which co-chairs the CGPCS was entrusted to the Seychelles .
The archipelago replaces the Republic of Korea and will be required to “develop management practices to protect ships against piracy in the region.”¬†It is also responsible for “creating mechanisms to ensure recruitment procedures of armed security guards for private shipping companies,” said the body Seychelles New Agency.

In this new assignment within the CGPCS, the country was awarded a grant of 600,000 dollars, or about ‚Ǩ 438,000.¬†It will include funding a project to develop the capacity to enforce maritime law, as well as the ability to analyze and investigate the establishment of an investigative unit of the maritime police still indicates the ‘SNA agency.
