Yonhap News Agency reports that South Korea has sent its 15th group of troops to the Gulf of Aden today as part of its continuing support for anti-piracy operations in the region. 
The troops are part of a 300-strong contingent including a destroyer, which left from the southern port city of Busan for a six-month tour of duty. They are anticipated to arrive in the area in a month’s time.
South Korea has had a militiary presence in the region since 2009 as part of an international naval effort to reduce piracy off the coast of Somalia. The force includes a Navy SEAL team, Marines and Navy pilots. In 2012, Navy commandos from the same unit rescued a South Korean freighter which had been hijacked by pirates, rescuing all 21 crew and killing eight pirates during the assault.
