Commander CTF 151 welcomes ROKS Choi Young

The Commander of CTF 151 has extended a warm welcome to crew from the latest Republic of Korea ship to join the multinational task force during their visit to his flagship.

Commodore Jeremy Blunden, UK Royal Navy, hosted a team from the ROKS Choi Young onboard Royal Fleet Auxiliary Fort Victoria and welcomed them formally to the task force.

He said: “I am very pleased to welcome the ROKS Choi Young to CTF 151. Having witnessed the first class work done by ROKS Wang Geon, I very much look forward to working with ROKS Choi Young to ensure the safety of navigation for merchant ships passing through the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden.

“The recent capture of nine Somali pirates by CTF 151 demonstrates that Somali pirates are not yet defeated and the international maritime effort must maintain its guard,” he added.

Captain Sung Mok Choi, Commander of the ROK Naval Escort Task Group and Commanding Officer of ROKS Choi Young said: ”I am honoured to operate my ship as part of the international Counter Piracy task force CTF 151 and to work with the UK-led command team over the coming months.”
