Cyprus to to take part in counter maritime piracy conference in Dubai

Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsoupoulos departs for Dubai, on Monday to take part in a counter maritime piracy international conference, on September 11 and 12.

The high level conference, the third one so far, is a dialogue platform between the private and the public sectors with a view to countering maritime piracy on an international and regional level, an official press release says.

Many Ministers from countries with large commercial fleets as well as other governmental and military officials are expected to participate in the conference.

On the sidelines of the conference Mitsopoulos will attend a dinner hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will also meet with high level executives of Falcon Aviation Services, a company which is expected to begin operations in Cyprus in the near future.

The Cypriot Minister will also meet with representatives of airlines to look into the possibility of operating flights to Cyprus and of extending the tourist season.

He will have a series of meetings with UAE business representatives with a view of expanding bilateral relations and of promoting investments in Cyprus.

Mitsopoulos will be accompanied by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Alecos Michaelides and Cyprus’ UAE Ambassador Elpidoforos Economou.
