Middle East Conflict – Daily Neptune P2P Group update 082 (1600h GST 01 June)

Headlines: US-Iran negotiations remain unresolved as President Trump convened the White House Situation Room on 29 May for a final determination on the proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU). The United States submitted amended MOU text to Tehran on 31 May, with Iranian officials confirming that counter-amendments remain under review as of 1 June and that no final agreement has been reached. Reports alleging the resignation of Iranian President Pezeshkian were formally denied by the Iranian Government and remained uncorroborated. CENTCOM confirmed self-defence strikes against Iranian radar and drone command-and-control facilities at Goruk and Qeshm Island following the reported shootdown of a US MQ-1 unmanned aerial vehicle over international waters. In the Levant, Israel signalled an intention to maintain and expand military operations, including into additional Lebanese territory. Egypt intensified mediation efforts regarding Gaza, convening emergency discussions with Hamas representatives while warning against further territorial expansion and calling for increased US intervention. Separately, President Trump appointed Ambassador Tom Barrack as Special Presidential Envoy for both Syria and Iraq, while Syrian leadership renewed calls for the removal of remaining US sanctions to support economic recovery.
