Navy chief seeks new policy on private maritime security

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe-Ibas has called for a new policy to address the role of private security companies in the maritime sector.

He said the Nigerian Navy expected the new policy to address the capacity of private security companies without necessarily eroding the service’s constitutional roles.

The naval chief spoke at the closing ceremony of the Second Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) conference, organised by the Nigerian Navy in partnership with the International Quality Productivity Center (IQPC) in Lagos yesterday.

Ekwe-Ibas said the need to address the new maritime policy directive was borne out of the desire of President Muhammadu Buhari to recapitalise and reposition the Navy to discharge its constitutional roles.
