Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman says that the hijacking of Singaporean oil tanker MT Jaoquim marks the first reported incident within Malaysia’s maritime territory in the Straits of Malacca this year.

The vessel carrying 3,500 metric tonnes of oil from Indonesia was bound for Langkawi when it went missing on Aug 8 off the coast of Port Dickson and was found on Aug 9 off the coast of Pulau Rupat, Indonesia.

“Based on information received from the relevant Malaysian authorities, this is the first incident in Malaysia’s maritime areas in the Straits of Malacca in 2015,” he said in a statement today.
