HULU KELANG: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today called for further expansion of joint patrols by Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia at the South China Seas and Straits of Malacca.

He said this was to ensure the safety of vessels following robberies at sea which is a global phenomenon that requires co-operation of all nations.

“(Sea robberies) is a phenomenon in this borderless world … Our focus is to find a way for nations to work together to tackle this issue.

“The (joint patrolling) must be revisited, we could include other countries to participate because any county that has a stake on the Straits of Malacca and South China Sea will look at this issue as non isolation,” Hishammuddin told the media after launching the Umno Pandan division meeting at the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) here.
