US admiral cites rise in piracy in Gulf of Oman

Associated Press reported on Friday that the US Navy is concerned by the recent rise in piracy in the Gulf of Oman and east Arabian Sea.

Neptune Maritime Security has made clients aware of several approaches by potential PAGs in the last couple of months, and it seems that the US Navy is also keeping an eye on the situation in the region. Admiral Jonathan Greenert, the Chief of Naval Operations, told reporters that the problem had emerged over the past few months not only in the NW Gulf of Oman but also off the coast of Pakistan. AP stated that the Admiral said the reasons for this needed to be investigated.
