Somalia: President Silanyo of Somaliland Meets UK Prime Minister David Cameron

President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo, who is on a visit to the United Kingdom, met with Prime Minister Cameron at Number 10 Downing Street. The British Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, William Hague, and Dr. Mohamed Abdilahi Omar, were also present.

President Silanyo briefed Prime Minister Cameron on last week’s Somalia/Somaliland talks in Ankara, and Prime Minister Cameron promised his government’s support for continuation of the talks.

Other areas of discussion included continuation of the UK’s assistance to Somaliland, with particular reference to supporting investment, improving the security sector and enhancing democratic governance. Cooperation in the war on terror and anti-piracy activities were also on the agenda. President Silanyo is reported to be continuing to Washington for talks with American officials.
