Seychelles Transfers Nine Pirates to Puntland

Seychelles on Monday (March 4th) transferred a second batch of convicted Somali pirates to Puntland to serve the rest of their 18-year jail terms, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

The nine pirates arrived at Bosaso National Airport and were handed over to Puntland Ports Minister Said Mohamed Rage and other officials. The pirates were then transported to a regional prison facility.

Seychelles sent the first batch of convicted Somali pirates back to the Puntland and Somaliland regions in December.

Other pirates serving jail terms in Seychelles will soon be transferred to Puntland, said Anderio Joses, a Seychellois police officer.
