Russian frigate on third anti-piracy mission

The Russian naval frigate Neustrashimyi has left its Baltic base on a mission to escort international ships through pirate-infested waters off the Horn of Africa.

It will reach the area by way of the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean Sea, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea.

This counter-piracy mission is the frigate’s third.

In the period between 2008 and 2010, the Neustrashimyi successfully escorted and protected about 90 international cargo vessels.
