Police Recover Machine Gun, Rifles From Sea Pirates In Rivers

Men of the Rivers State police command, on Friday, recovered one general purpose machine gun (GPMG), one G3 rifle, 85 rounds of live ammunition, five assorted phones and the sum of N22,450 from sea pirates operating along the Opobo Queen Town Sea in the state.

“On 19/12/2014 at about 1300 hours along Opobo Queen Town Sea, policemen on patrol engaged sea pirates while robbing innocent Nigerians,” a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, in Port Harcourt, on Saturday read.

“At the end of the gun, duel one of the robbers was fatally wounded while others abandoned the operation and managed to escape.

“Items recovered from the operation include one GPMG, one G3 rifle, 85 rounds of live ammunition, five assorted phones and money to tune of twenty two thousand, four hundred and fifty Naira (22,450). Three speed boats of the robbers were also recovered.

“This singular feat has demonstrated the capability of the command to provide security across the state including the waterways,” said Muhammad.
