Gunmen Wreak Havoc In Bayelsa

It was also reported that sea pirates operating along the creeks of the Niger Delta in a separate operation also killed a passenger of a boat and robbed others of their belonging and money including mobile phones and the fuel line of the boat.

Witnesses said the masked pirates shot indiscriminately into the passenger boat before operating for an hour.

They said the assailants were five in number, adding that they killed the passenger along the Akassa-Yenagoa water way which has recently become the hub of piracy and oil theft in the state.

It was learnt that the fate of the boat driver who escaped with gunshot wounds and other passengers who were rushed to different hospitals were unknown at the time of filing this report, but the corpse of the victim has been taken away by the marine police in Yenagoa.

The passenger boat operates from Bekekiri, a settlement in Akassa axis of Brass Local Government Area, to the Swali Ultra-Modern Market in Yenagoa. The boat driver was later gathered to be currently receiving treatment in the capital as well.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government in a statement issued in Kogi State, on Tuesday , November 11, 2014, by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defense, Mr. Aliyu Ismaila Numan, disclosed that in its bid to effectively secure the nation’s maritime environment, more equipment would be ceded to the Nigerian navy.
