Estonia: Additional 15 Marines Slated for International Missions

Parliament today ratified a bill to deploy 15 navy officers to Standing NATO Maritime Group 1, in addition to the 10-member anti-piracy team already serving as part of the EU Naval Force.

The 15-member group will serve on ships belonging to the German navy, reported ERR radio.

In addition to the usual tasks of providing security and checking the cargo of civilian ships, the team may also be sent to conduct missions to detect piracy.

The crew will participate on the Ocean Shield and Active Endeavor operations off the coast of the Horn of Africa and in the Mediterranean Sea respectively.

The exact date of the start of their tour is yet unclear.
