President Trump brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which temporarily ended Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. Another US initiative saw an agreement between Ukraine and Russia to ‘eliminate the use of force’ in the Black Sea. In the Levant, tensions remain high as Israel resumed operations in Gaza, and in Syria, intercommunal clashes flared as rival militia groups vied for control of the country. In Africa, the Sudanese Armed Forces recaptured Khartoum, and in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Rwandan-backed M23 took Goma, displacing 100,000+ civilians. Climate events and outbreaks of infectious diseases further compound risks in vulnerable regions. In Central and South America, incidents involving organised crime and gang warfare continue to surge in Ecuador, Mexico, and Haiti.
