Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Awareness Course
The UAV Awareness course will equip participants with essential knowledge of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), increasing their situational awareness to mitigate the level of risk from the threat from UAVs in the maritime domain.
Recent UAV activities in some of the world’s most significant maritime routes, have impacted not only the security of these routes but also the lives of seafarers.

- Introduction to UAVs – provide an overall aim of the course.
- Historical Background – provides a contextual understanding of the historical development of UAVs and the evolution of technology. Participants will learn how UAVs have become more capable and reliable whilst understanding the current state of the threat specific to shipping, case studies of recent incidents and future implications.
- Countering the Threat – Understanding how to mitigate the risk of potential threats from UAVs helps participants enhance safety and security measures on vessels. Modules include Pre-impact training (awareness and preparation) and Impact training (actions on attack). Other Best Practice measures will also be discussed.
- End of course assessment to evaluate the participants understanding of the knowledge and skills taught during the course.

Delivery Method: Online, the interactive training awareness modules can be accessed and completed at a time of an individual’s choosing. Once purchased you will be issued login credentials for our online learning management platform.
Duration: 90 minutes.
Individuals and groups involved in the maritime industry who have a vested interest in understanding, mitigating, and responding to this emerging security challenge.
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Threat recognition – be able to identify types of UAVs, potential threats, through visual clues.
- UAV Capabilities – understanding of capabilities and limitations, including range, payload capacity and potential threats posed.
- Security protocols – knowledge of best practices for implementing security protocols and procedures to mitigate the UAV threats, including threat response and reporting mechanisms.
- Response strategies – develop skills to respond to the threat from UAVs, including communication and evasion.
Participants will be evaluated through a final online assessment and practical evaluation at the end of the course.
Successful completion of the course will result in the issuance of a certification.
