Nigeria: Navy solicits communities’ support in the fight against oil theft

BY AUGUSTINE AMINU

The Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, on Thursday solicited the cooperation of communities in Badagry in the fight against oil theft, piracy and sea robbery.

Ibas made the appeal when he inaugurated a 500 KVA transformer which was donated to the Forward Operation Naval Base, Badagry, Lagos, by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba.

He said that cooperation of the communities would go a long way in helping the Navy carry out its operations and boost its operational efficiency.

Ibas, however, said the transformer, if well maintained, would help in addressing some of the power-related challenges in the Base.

He, however, described the gesture as one of the cardinal points of Ezeoba’s Strategic Guidance 01 that prioritised personnel welfare in order to bring out the best in them.

He charged the personnel at the Base to collaborate with Akarakumo and Topo communities with a view to putting adequate measures in place to ensure the security of the transformer.

The Commanding Officer of the base, Capt. Lanre Ajibade, thanked the Naval High Command for the support, adding that it brought relief to the base which had only a 2.5 KVA generator.
