The Nigerian Navy has re-assured Nigerians of its readiness to fight piracy.  Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft, Naval Base Apapa, Commodore Chris Ezekobe gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of 2013 Health Week which ended with free medical test on diabetes, dental, eye and other related illnesses in Lagos.
The commander noted that the turnout of officers and ratings was commendable, adding that the week-long lecture series and the free medical tests gave them an opportunity to know their health status.
He said the programme was in-line with the Chief of Naval Staff’s strategic plan 01 which encompasses so many things including staff welfare.
Earlier, at the opening ceremony, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command Rear Admiral Ibok Ibas noted that there were very few people living with HIV/AIDS among Naval personnel.
Ibok stated that the low rate recorded was due to mass education and enlightenment by the service.
He said the Navy will continue with enlightenment campaigns at all formations in order to ensure a healthy workforce.
