MEDITERRANEAN SEA (May 21, 2013) HNLMS Van Speijk sailing towards the Indian Ocean to become part of Task Force 508 involved in Operation Ocean Shield.
Operation Ocean Shield is NATO’s counter piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden and off the Horn of Africa. NATO has been helping to deter and disrupt pirate attacks, while protecting vessels and helping to increase the general level of security in the region since 2008. NATO is currently deploying a Task Force composed by 3 Units: the flagship ITS San Marco, the TCG Gokova and the USS Nicholas.
