INCIDENT ALERT – EXPLOSION
Date: 25/02/2021 2040 UTC
Position: 2423N 05833E (44NM North of Muscat)
Location: GULF OF OMAN

Incident details:

The Bahamas flagged Vehicle Carrier HELIOS RAY (IMO 9690547) is believed to have suffered an explosion while transiting the Gulf of Oman. The vessel and crew are reported to be safe.Intelligence Comments: Using Neptune P2P Group’s tracking sources and data platform we believe the vessel sailed from Dammam KSA and passed through the SOH Eastbound on 25/2 but is now heading back in a Westerly direction.  There is no indication at this point as to the cause of the explosion, however, the incident took place close to an area where two vessels were attacked in July 2019 with what was believed to be limpet mines. There is nothing at present to suggest that this is the case in this incident, but investigations are ongoing and we will provide further updates as information is received.

We will revert shortly with updated information.
